Audiolyze is not picking up any sound. What should I check?
First, confirm microphone access is granted: open the Settings app, scroll to Audiolyze, and make sure the Microphone toggle is on. Then check that no other app is holding exclusive control of the microphone (some recording apps do this). If you are using an external interface or USB microphone, unplug and reconnect it, then relaunch Audiolyze.
I denied the microphone permission by mistake. How do I re-enable it?
iOS does not let an app ask twice. Open the Settings app, find Audiolyze in the list, and toggle Microphone on. The next time you launch Audiolyze, the spectrum will begin updating immediately.
Why are my SPL readings different from my reference meter?
iPhone and iPad microphones are not calibrated to a fixed reference level out of the factory, so the raw level Audiolyze reads is not the same as a certified sound level meter. Use the calibration feature: place a known, steady reference tone next to both your reference meter and your device, then enter the reference SPL value in Audiolyze. After calibration, readings will be aligned to your reference at that level. For best results, recalibrate any time you change device, microphone, or environment.
Should I use A-weighting or Z-weighting?
Use A-weighting when you want measurements that correlate with how humans perceive loudness, especially for ambient noise levels. Use Z-weighting (flat, unweighted) when you are evaluating raw acoustic content or comparing against measurements taken with a flat response.
Can I use an external microphone or audio interface?
Yes. Audiolyze uses whichever audio input iOS has selected. Connect your interface (USB-C, Lightning, or Bluetooth) before launching Audiolyze, and iOS will route input through it. If you swap interfaces while the app is running, Audiolyze re-detects the route automatically.
Is my audio recorded or sent anywhere?
No. Audiolyze processes audio entirely on-device, in memory, in real time. Nothing is recorded, saved to disk, or transmitted over the network. The app does not include analytics or third-party trackers. See our Privacy Policy for the full statement.
The app feels laggy on my device. What can I do?
Lower the FFT size in the spectrum settings (try 2048 or 1024 instead of 4096), or disable the waterfall display while you focus on the spectrum view. If you are running other audio apps at the same time, closing them will free up CPU for Audiolyze.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
Send us a message through our contact form and include your device model, iOS version, and a short description of what you were doing when the issue occurred. Screenshots help a lot.
